Project Rosetta: Article Suggestions

I think this is a great start and a really needed effort, as I wrote of my blog I've been concerned about the lack of resources widely available to guide developers and designers in the art of building Rich Interactive Applications collaboratively and I think given the new wave of technologies that both u guys and Adobe are pushing out, we need as leader in the discussion to provide the right resources to guide them towards success. Keep it up!

A nice forum for designers and developers to share ideas and practices for making the RIA web a better place. Looking forward to seeing Project Rosetta evolve into something beyond the underlying technologies. Will be checking back often to see what others are making available and to contribute to discussions. The future is near!

I am definately looking forward to where this space goes for designer and developers alike. Keep this coming and hopefully initiatives like this can help mature the community of designers and developers in the Microsoft space.

You could, for example, try to describe some differences and main ideas regarding custom control creation, support for styles and templates in WPF/SL and how they position themselves regarding to Flash...

I would love to see the Silverlight implementation of various Flash animations.

I think Silverlight is much closer to Flex than it is to Flash. Can someone do a walkthrough of developing a simple RIA (actual application rather than animation) in Silverlight from the perspective of someone with experience making RIA's with Flex?

I strongly support the idea of doing an illsutrator/photoshop 2 xaml lesson. In my experience the developers adopt fast and well to visual studio, but the designers often are "people of the mouse" so a new App and a different concept are challenging for them.

    Fantastic set of articles.

Please make them available as an RSS feed.

Looks like the current suggestions include Illustrator/Photoshop to XAML and comparing skinning controls along with application models. These are good suggestions, thanks for all of the comments.

    NEED TOOLS!
I am trying to get some flash objects into xaml and noithing seems to work right!

the two tools I have found make xmal that is not valid for SIlverlight 2
VisualBrush for example is used in the tools conversion but it's not valid for SL 2

Illustrator and Fireworks export to XAML is pretty straight forward but i would be curious to see the workflow for Photoshop to XAML. I thought bitmaps we're bitmaps and couldn't be converted to XAML so it should be interesting!

I'm most keen to see a DeepZoom tutorial that makes sense to the humble designer. There are a few blogs out there but they cater to the developer and designers get lost within the first paragraph. For example having a slideshow in DeepZoom, for example a play button that will zoom into the first image and after a few seconds move on to the next and so on until the last image is reached then go back tot he first image until the stop/pause button is clicked - concept is simple and i know all the info need is in the DeepZoom XML but how to actually access the correct info and implement it? totally lost.

What if my OS isn't Windows or Mac OS X? Is silverlight still available to me?
  • Adam Kinney · 1 year ago
There is an open source implementation of Silverlight called Moonlight which runs on Linux and other Unix/X11 based operating systems.

I just want to see an in depth walkthrough on creating game art for Silverlight game with expression design. It would be also useful if someone write on converting psd file into Xaml. I mean designing in Photoshop and then convert psd into Xaml to work with Silverlight or WPF.
